An Introduction to News Literacy

Are you frustrated by our confusing and complex world of news and information? Are you concerned about “bias” in the news media as well as online misinformation/disinformation and the effects on our society? Explore these critical topics in a nonpartisan manner from a “news literacy” perspective and discover some useful skills from the world of news and information literacy. This six part course offers an introductory “overview” session followed by five “deeper-dive” topics exploring the “ABC’s” of news literacy. Can’t commit to all six? That’s ok! Come to the first one, and then to which ever other classes you can! But fair warning: if you come to the first, you won’t want to miss the rest!

This course will cover the basics of how to use Apple’s operating system which works on Apple’spopular line of laptops and desktops. This class starts with the basic functions of the MacOSoperating system and how to navigate through folders, files, and menus. Organizing, moving, andsaving files will be covered too.

Enamel earrings
with Alice Carroll
This course on enamel earrings is a quick intro to enameling. Will will discuss sifting and wet laying the enamel on the metal. Enamel is powdered glass that is heated with a kiln or a torch to achieve a beautiful color. Each student will learn how to cut and form the metal to create the shapes. Students will also learn how to use rivets or other cold connections to attach pieces of metal to each other. We will explore multiple ways of designing an ear wire to complete the pieces.This is class is open to all skill levels, there will be demonstrations, and plenty of work time.
