There are lots of laughs along the way and learning to play an instrument is good for your brain! You will need a playable ukulele and an electronic tuner or a tuner app. And when folks hear you play this happy instrument, well, they just have to smile! Boat America is a National Association of Boating Law Administrators certificate class that offers an in-depth and interesting boating safety course, and provides the knowledge needed to obtain a boating certificate.

Some insurance companies will also offer discounts on boating insurance to boaters who successfully complete this course.

Introduction to Boating – Types of power boats, boating vocabulary, sailboats, paddle boats, powering boats, and engine types.

Boating Law – Boat registration, regulations, hull identification numbers, required safety equipment, Federal boating law, state boating law, and reporting accidents.

Safety Equipment – Life jackets, fire extinguishers, sound-producing devices, visual distress signals, anchors, and other safety equipment.

Safe Operation and Navigation – Buoys and beacons, aids to navigation, navigation rules, docking, and the dangers of alcohol on the water.

Boating Emergencies – Hypothermia, boating accidents, man overboard, capsizing, emergency radio calls, carbon monoxide dangers, and weather.

Trailering – Types of trailers, lights, hitches, towing a trailer.

Sports and Boating – Water-skiing, hunting and hunting gear, PWC operation, and other boating tips.

Growing your Veggie Green Thumb

Join in on a gardening adventure and unlock the joys of cultivating your own sustainable food source. This is a opportunity to dive into the whole vegetable gardening process including planning and preparation to nurturing and harvesting. Class 1 here at York Adult Education, Class 2 at the community garden, Class 3 at Riverside Farm North Berwick, going over plan and selecting plants. You'll gain a deeper understanding about various vegetable varieties, soil preparation, seed starting, plant selection, transplanting, pest and disease management, watering techniques and sustainable gardening practices. Whether you are a beginner or have some gardening experience this class is for you. Class participation is encouraged so come with you questions so we can learn from each other. Our final class will be held at a local farm stand/nursery where the instructor will assist in selecting the right plants for your vegetable garden.

We'll dig in and prepare and plant a raised bed.and discuss the care of the garden including proper watering, the use of soil amendments and crop protection. We know that turning a confused gardener into a confident on is only a class away.

Estate Planning

This class will begin with an overview of basic estate planning, including Wills, Powers of Attorney, Health Care Directives, etc. The class will then delve into, learning how revocable trusts can help avoid probate and protect your privacy, and how irrevocable trusts can protect your assets from nursing home or Maine Care (Medicaid) liens. Discussion will include other strategies to safeguard assets from life events such as business failure or divorce of adult children. Kathryn Bedell is a lawyer in York, Maine and has been practicing for 31 years. Her practice focuses on estate planning, asset preservation, and probate matter.
