Learn to play the ukulele! It has never been more popular and you don’t even need to know how to read music! On the uke you can knock out folk music, rock, blues, jazz, pop, country, tunes old and new -- even classical music. Duncan Perry, who has taught more than 700 students of all ages, will introduce you to essential chords and playing techniques using familiar songs. There are lots of laughs along the way and learning to play an instrument is good for your brain! You will need a playable ukulele and an electronic tuner or a tuner app. And when folks hear you play this happy instrument, well, they just have to smile! Boat America is a National Association of Boating Law Administrators certificate class that offers an in-depth and interesting boating safety course, and provides the knowledge needed to obtain a boating certificate.

Some insurance companies will also offer discounts on boating insurance to boaters who successfully complete this course.

Introduction to Boating – Types of power boats, boating vocabulary, sailboats, paddle boats, powering boats, and engine types.

Boating Law – Boat registration, regulations, hull identification numbers, required safety equipment, Federal boating law, state boating law, and reporting accidents.

Safety Equipment – Life jackets, fire extinguishers, sound-producing devices, visual distress signals, anchors, and other safety equipment.

Safe Operation and Navigation – Buoys and beacons, aids to navigation, navigation rules, docking, and the dangers of alcohol on the water.

Join in on a gardening adventure and unlock the joys of cultivating your own sustainable food source. This is a opportunity to dive into the whole vegetable gardening process including planning and preparation to nurturing and harvesting. Class 1 here at York Adult Education, Class 2 at the community garden, Class 3 at Riverside Farm North Berwick, going over plan and selecting plants. You'll gain a deeper understanding about various vegetable varieties, soil preparation, seed starting, plant selection, transplanting, pest and disease management, watering techniques and sustainable gardening practices. Whether you are a beginner or have some gardening experience this class is for you. Class participation is encouraged so come with you questions so we can learn from each other. Our final class will be held at a local farm stand/nursery where the instructor will assist in selecting the right plants for your vegetable garden.

April 24 (at York Adult Ed), May 1 (at the Community Garden), and May 8 (at Riverside Farm in North Berwick)

You will learn how to hide data, split and freeze a window, create ranges, understand the name manager, learn additional functions, copy and paste special, sort data, and learn the power of filters. Some examples of using Microsoft Excel as practical tools including the amortization table, 20 top functions companies want their employees to know, and pivot tables. This is a live online class using ZOOM.

So you want to learn how to make your vegetable or flower garden easier to manage and more bountiful at the same time? Raised bed gardening is the answer. During this class we will discuss all the specifics including site location, assembling and setup of bed and what kind of soil you need and how much. We'll dig in and prepare and plant a raised bed.and discuss the care of the garden including proper watering, the use of soil amendments and crop protection. We know that turning a confused gardener into a confident on is only a class away.

Classes held at Josias River Farm (171 Logging Rd, Cape Neddick, ME).

This class will begin with an overview of basic estate planning, including Wills, Powers of Attorney, Health Care Directives, etc. The class will then delve into, learning how revocable trusts can help avoid probate and protect your privacy, and how irrevocable trusts can protect your assets from nursing home or Maine Care (Medicaid) liens. Discussion will include other strategies to safeguard assets from life events such as business failure or divorce of adult children. Kathryn Bedell is a lawyer in York, Maine and has been practicing for 31 years. Her practice focuses on estate planning, asset preservation, and probate matter.
