Linked Bracelet - Sterling Silver

Create your own unique sterling silver linked bracelet. There will be a demonstration and plenty of work time for you to learn the basic techniques and to finish a beautiful piece of jewelry. We will cover soldering, fusing, and light forging. All metals, tools, and supplies provided. Class is located at Alice's studio in Portsmouth. Alice Carroll, who has a BFA from Maine College of Art and an MFA from Rochester Technology of Art, School for American Crafts, was an Artist in Residence at Penland School of Crafts in NC for two years. She came back to Maine in 1994 and has been teaching at Heartwood College of Art, Sanctuary Arts, and River Tree Arts.

Raising Goats

Learn the basics of raising goats! If you’ve ever considered taking on goats, whether for dairy, meat or land clearing purposes, this is the class for you. Learn from two different dairy goat farmers on the basic upkeep, veterinary care, breeding plans and all of the in-betweens of goat raising. After the course you can visit both farms and receive a discounted rate on the purchase of 2021 spring kids.

The location is in-person at the Anderson Learning Center in Springvale, unless school is closed, then it will be a remote class.


Falun Gong: Introduction

Falun Gong is an ancient, traditional Chinese practice of "self cultivation"- a way to improve mental and physical wellness through five easy-to-learn exercises, meditation, and the elevation of one's mind. The practice is based on the universal values of truthfulness, compassion, and tolerance. This introductory demo class will provide a brief overview of the system, plus a demonstration of the exercises. All Falun Gong instruction is free of charge. Class fee is an AE administrative cost. He offers free instruction throughout southern Maine and New Hampshire.

What To Do With Milk

Now that you’re considering raising goats and interested in their milk, learn the incredible variety of things you can do with that milk! We will talk about drinking the milk raw and when heat treating (also known as pasteurizing) can be beneficial. We also make different cheeses, yogurt, soaps and lotions. We will share some of the basic recipes for all of these items and go over what you would need for supplies/ equipment from start to finish.

Beginner Drone Flying

This 15-hour blended course is designed for anyone using or looking to use drones. We cover the operation of various models, hands-on flight practice, uses and applications across industries, FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) regulations, operational risks, insurance, career opportunities and much more. If you are currently working, or considering a career in, real estate, construction, transportation, agriculture, insurance, public safety, photography, media, inspection, etc. or want to start a business, you’ll learn how your industry can be transformed in new, cost-effective ways. We will discuss how the citizens of Maine are using these unmanned aircraft in their businesses and how best you can employ drones in your business or start a new one. Prerequisites: Must have a minimum of 8th grade English reading and writing level, and comfortable using a computer and internet browser.

Note: This will be a combined class with two (2) virtual on-line classes via Zoom then one (1) face-to-face flying day.
