Boat America
with U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary
Boat America is a National Association of Boating Law Administrators certificate class that offers an in-depth and interesting boating safety course, and provides the knowledge needed to obtain a boating certificate. Some insurance companies will also offer discounts on boating insurance to boaters who successfully complete this course. Introduction to Boating – Types of power boats, boating vocabulary, sailboats, paddle boats, powering boats, and engine types. Boating Law – Boat registration, regulations, hull identification numbers, required safety equipment, Federal boating law, state boating law, and reporting accidents. Safety Equipment – Life jackets, fire extinguishers, sound-producing devices, visual distress signals, anchors, and other safety equipment. Safe Operation and Navigation – Buoys and beacons, aids to navigation, navigation rules, docking, and the dangers of alcohol on the water. Boating Emergencies – Hypothermia, boating accidents, man overboard, capsizing, emergency radio calls, carbon monoxide dangers, and weather. Whether you're too embarrassed to ask for help or heavily relying on others for assistance, this class is designed for you. Our course offers a gentle, step-by-step introduction to the essential technologies that can simplify and enrich your daily life.
Each week, we’ll explore a new topic, starting with the basics and building your confidence as we go. You'll gain a better understanding of how technology works and how you can use it to your advantage.We'll cover a wide range of subjects, including:
- The origins of technology and how networks and Wi-Fi operate
- Introduction to smartphones, tablets, and laptops
- Overview of email, texting, and chatting
- Navigating Roku, Google, YouTube, Facebook, and online calendars
- Understanding voice assistants like Google, Siri, and Alexa
- Using ZOOM, online banking, and shopping on Amazon
- Best practices for passwords, logins, and safe browsing
- Recognizing and avoiding online threats like viruses, phishing, malware, and ransomware
Each session will include a review of the previous week and a look at something new.
No computer is required for this class—just bring your curiosity and a willingness to learn.

Bezel Set Sea Glass Ring

Join Alice for a hands-on, three-hour workshop where you'll learn to texture, size, solder, and set a stone. Each student will create their own bezel, texture a ring, and solder them together. We'll cover how to properly size your finger and calculate the metal needed for your ring. Once your ring is crafted, you'll learn to set a piece of sea glass in a bezel setting. All materials are provided, but you are welcome to bring your own beach stone or sea glass if you have a special piece. No prior experience is necessary. Most people go about it the wrong way. In this introductory class, you will learn about a unique, outside the box way to break into this creative, fulfilling, and potentially lucrative industry. Voice-overs can be managed on your own terms, on your own turf, in your own time, and with minimal overhead! Whether you choose to pursue voice-overs part-time or full-time, this could be the game changer you’ve been looking for. In addition to online instruction, you will be given the opportunity to book a 1-on-1 script read and voice evaluation via telephone with your instructor for the following day. This class will be presented via Zoom, you will receive a link the 24 hours prior to the class.
Excel Intermediate

During this session, you will learn how to navigate multiple worksheets, save your workbook, create formulas, use functions, change the layout of your worksheet, and how to create practical worksheets. 1040 Income Tax – Maintain tax information that is very useful when preparing your annual tax return. The design of this course includes 2-3 hours of work with the software between sessions to gain maximum benefit from the sessions. Some examples of using Microsoft Excel as a Practical Tool: ● Grocery Shopping List – Quickly create a weekly grocery shopping list. What a time saver! ● Contractor Estimate Calculator - Great tool for any contractor who has to provide estimates for customers. ● Household Budget – Create a monthly budget of your household expenditures. This is a live online class using ZOOM. Please take a few minutes to complete the survey included in your automated receipt so the instructor can tailor the course to meet your needs. You will want to have Microsoft Excel on your computer for this workshop and many people find it helpful to have two monitors though it is certainly not necessary to benefit from the sessions. There are two ways to accomplish this: 1) attach an external screen to your computer (contact our program if you need technical assistance with that); 2) use two computers (one for Excel and the other for the ZOOM meeting. Val Landry is a lifelong business educator and academic advisor focused on helping enrich and enhance students' educational and life purposes. He is experienced in college management and, as an adult educator, having taught at the Mid-State College and Kennebec Valley Community College.
