Indoor Walking Program

Stay Active This Winter!
York Adult Education invites you to enjoy a safe and comfortable space for walking at York Middle School. Join us Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evenings from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM to get your steps in and stay active, no matter the weather.
Choose Your Own Adventure: Walk at your own pace and choose from mapped-out routes with mileage markers.
Optional Challenges: Tackle the stairs for an extra boost or add variety to your routine with exercise stops along the way.
All Levels Welcome: Whether you're a beginner or looking for a way to stay fit, this program is perfect for everyone. Registration is required.

Boat America
with U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary

Boat America is a National Association of Boating Law Administrators certificate class that offers an in-depth and interesting boating safety course, and provides the knowledge needed to obtain a boating certificate. Some insurance companies will also offer discounts on boating insurance to boaters who successfully complete this course. Introduction to Boating – Types of power boats, boating vocabulary, sailboats, paddle boats, powering boats, and engine types. Boating Law – Boat registration, regulations, hull identification numbers, required safety equipment, Federal boating law, state boating law, and reporting accidents. Safety Equipment – Life jackets, fire extinguishers, sound-producing devices, visual distress signals, anchors, and other safety equipment. Safe Operation and Navigation – Buoys and beacons, aids to navigation, navigation rules, docking, and the dangers of alcohol on the water. Boating Emergencies – Hypothermia, boating accidents, man overboard, capsizing, emergency radio calls, carbon monoxide dangers, and weather. Trailering – Types of trailers, lights, hitches, towing a trailer. Sports and Boating – Water-skiing, hunting and hunting gear, PWC operation, and other boating tips.

Raised Bed Gardening

So you want to learn how to make your vegetable or flower garden easier to manage and more bountiful at the same time? Raised bed gardening is the answer. During this class we will discuss all the specifics including site location, assembling and setup of bed and what kind of soil you need and how much. We'll dig in and prepare and plant a raised bed.and discuss the care of the garden including proper watering, the use of soil amendments and crop protection. We know that turning a confused gardener into a confident on is only a class away.

CPR/First Aid/AED Training

This American Heart Association (AHA) Heartsaver First Aid/CPR/AED course uses a combination of video, lecture, and guided skill practice to teach participants to respond to cardiac and other health related emergency situations. Topics include basic first aid, response to environmental emergencies, warning signs of heart attack and stroke, CPR including AED training, and foreign object airway obstruction for adults, children, and infants. Certification is valid for two years. Participants should dress in comfortably fitting clothing that allows for movement, as the class includes both desk and floor work. No written test.
