Beginner Hoop Dance (Spring 2018)

Hoop dance is an exciting and evolving form of artistic movement and dance that will elevate your mood and help keep you fit! Not only does it burn calories while toning your entire body, but it is also a great way to release stress, quiet your mind and get your creative juices flowing! This class will teach students how to hoop on and off the body, transitions between movements, flow, and tricks. It is geared toward students brand new to hooping or for those ready to move beyond the waist. Specially made adult-sized hoops make it possible for everyone to hoop! Jeni is a certified Levels 1,2 Instructor. She has been teaching classes in Hoop Dance since 2010 at various dance, yoga and wellness centers in ME, NH, and MA. She discovered Hoop Dance while working with a top international dance company in Los Angeles. (Hoops will be available to borrow or purchase for $45) Please note the price is $70.00.

Beginning Beekeeping (Spring 2018)

You will learn what you need to begin beekeeping. We’ll cover tools, hive, location for an apiary, how to obtain bees and install them in the hive. A hive opening will be part of the class. You will learn about the life cycle of the bee, what they need to survive and how to care for them year-round. We will offer numerous opportunities to work with live bees in our apiaries so that you get some hand-on experience before your bees arrive. You will be able to purchase bees and equipment through the class, if you choose. One of the class sessions will be outdoors. “Bee” a part of this exciting hobby! If there is enough interest, a cooking with honey class may be added, but there will be an extra charge. Bill Turner is a 34 year veteran of beekeeping, and a former MA bee inspector. Tim Fisher, a retired engineer from Portsmouth Shipyard, has assisted in teaching this class for the last five years. (Required textbook: The Beekeeper’s Handbook, 4th edition, by Diana Sammataro and Alphonse Avitabile. We will purchase the textbook for you for an additional $29 or you may obtain your own copy) No class on 4/17/2018

From sharp & percussive to soft & fluid, you will learn some of the basic movements that make up the foundation of this dance form. Geared toward brand new students and those with some experience, this class will include a comprehensive breakdown of technique, traveling steps and turns, drills, and putting it all together in combinations. Belly Dance is studied and performed by women of all backgrounds and ages. Not only is it a beautiful art form and means of self-expression, it also increases flexibility, tones your abs and helps you to achieve grace, poise, balance and coordination.
