Come learn about the licensing process and the different ways you can help Maine children. There is a special need for people who can care for infants, sibling groups, and adolescents, while also supporting the reunification process. There are also over 100 children waiting to find a forever family. Join us for this informational meeting and take that very first step to becoming a resource family. Stephanie Eklund, a former and long-standing advocate for victims of domestic violence, joined A Family for ME as a foster/adoptive parent recruiter in Southern Maine. Stephanie brings with her a wealth of knowledge regarding recruitment, collaborative efforts with community members, public speaking and training, volunteer engagement, and helping people in need. In her personal time, Stephanie enjoys reading, working out, traveling, and spending time with her family.

Discover the hottest, happiest musical instrument around! On it you can play folk music, rock, blues, pop, country, classical, reggae, bossa nova, jazz. Our beginners’ ukulele course is meant for people with no musical background – even people who think they are musically challenged! And, you don’t even need to know how to read music! Using familiar songs, he introduces you to chords, strumming, and finger picking. Requirements for his class are to have a serviceable soprano, concert, or tenor size ukulele and an electronic tuner. Duncan can help if you don’t have a uke yet.

Beginning Quilting

In this 6 week class you will learn how to make a table runner and placemat set from start to completely finished. If you are a quick learner, other small projects will be available. All will be out of fabrics of your choosing. Sophia Santerre has been sewing for over 40 years and quilting for 20. She has taught classes in several areas of quilting, from basic piecing to ruler use, to free-motion quilting. Sophia and her husband Paul own a quilt studio with longarm quilting services in York.

Beyond Beginner Ukulele

Get ready to take your ukulele playing to another level with Duncan Perry! Using his song-based approach, you will explore left hand ornamentation techniques including hammering on and slides. The right hand will get a work out as you expand your knowledge of strumming and fingerpicking by learning such skills as triplets and muting. At a minimum, all students are expected to know basic chord formations in the Keys of C and G and be capable of smooth chord transitions. Requirements for his class are to have a serviceable soprano, concert, or tenor size ukulele and an electronic tuner. Duncan can help if you don’t have a uke yet.

Boating Skills and Seamanship

The US Coast Guard Auxiliary’s Boating Skills and Seamanship (BS&S) course is a comprehensive course designed for both the experienced and the novice boater. Successful completion earns a boating education certificate recognized in all the states with operator education requirements. Henry Marchi has been teaching boating safety for over 18 years for the US Coast Guard Auxiliary. Henry is also able to give the NH Marine Patrol exam in addition to the Auxiliary Class. Cost includes book.
