Intro to Abstraction - Beyond the Literal
with Bess Cutler
Focusing on the dynamics of composition will help you go beyond the literal. Look at anything abstractly and know how to organize it as a composition. Working from unconventional still-lifes, learn to see the whole and not just the parts. Mixed media and collage will also be included. Critical analysis of strengths and weaknesses in the work will provide the structure to get you going in the right direction. Weekly homework is given but is optional. Materials list is available on our website. Bess Cutler is an MFA graduate of The School of the Museum of Fine Arts/Tufts in Boston, and a BA from Brandeis. Her teaching experience includes Maine College of Art (MeCA), DeCordova Museum, The School of the Museum of Fine Arts, and Kittery Adult Education.
