with Alice Carroll
Forging is an ancient technique of controlled hammer blows to change the plane of the metal and move it into varying shapes. Each student will learn how to control the directional movement of metal by using certain hammers and hammering the metal in certain directions. After practicing some hammering, everyone will leave with a beautiful finished forged bracelet. All materials and supplies included and no experience necessary. Alice Carroll, who has a BFA from Maine College of Art and an MFA from Rochester Technology of Art, School for American Crafts, was an Artist in Residence at Penland School of Crafts in NC for two years. She came back to Maine in 1994 and has been teaching at Heartwood College of Art, Sanctuary Arts, and River Tree Arts.
