Learning to draw - basics course online

Let's have fun learning how to draw together! Learn the basics of drawing in progressional steps from simple perspective to the details it takes to add depth and dimension. Use the skills you learn in class to create a little work of art at the end of each session! Class is located at Alice's studio in Portsmouth. Alice Carroll, who has a BFA from Maine College of Art and an MFA from Rochester Technology of Art, School for American Crafts, was an Artist in Residence at Penland School of Crafts in NC for two years. She came back to Maine in 1994 and has been teaching at Heartwood College of Art, Sanctuary Arts, and River Tree Arts.

Intro to Abstraction - Beyond the Literal

Focusing on the dynamics of composition will help you go beyond the literal. Look at anything abstractly and know how to organize it as a composition. Working from unconventional still-lifes, learn to see the whole and not just the parts. Mixed media and collage will also be included. Critical analysis of strengths and weaknesses in the work will provide the structure to get you going in the right direction. Weekly homework is given but is optional. Materials list is available on our website. Bess Cutler is an MFA graduate of The School of the Museum of Fine Arts/Tufts in Boston, and a BA from Brandeis. Her teaching experience includes Maine College of Art (MeCA), DeCordova Museum, The School of the Museum of Fine Arts, and Kittery Adult Education.
