August, Art Adventure - The Traveling Sketchbook Summer Class

SUMMER CLASSES ARE READY! ARE YOU? Now is your chance to get outside and have a really great time sketching and painting! Here is what is coming up. FOR THE ABSOLUTE BEGINNER & INTERMEDIATE STUDENT ...ART ADVENTURE - THE TRAVELING SKETCHBOOK SUMMER CLASS! This traveling sketchbook class is for everyone. With just a pen, pencil and a sketchbook, you can begin this creative adventure. We start this class with an introduction to different types of sketchbooks and paper, pencils, pens, and paints and how you can use them for different effects in your sketchbook. We will start with an introduction to sketching and look at the foundations of good sketches, various techniques, and applications you can use in your sketchbook. Beginner to experienced artists will love this process. Sketching develops your observing and drawing skills, increases your visual vocabulary, expands your creativity and is very relaxing. Individual expression, growth, and creativity are encouraged. Every week we will meet at a different location. This class is perfect for absolute beginners to skilled artists who would like to try a new experience with a minimum of expense for supplies. Beginners are very welcome. Bring all of your supplies to the first class. We will be sketching outdoors after an introduction to materials.Sketching Supplies - Materials list: The Bare Minimum Sketchbook Kit: A sketchbook, pencil & ink pen. The Expanded Sketchbook Kit: Colored pencils, markers, ink pens, watercolor pencils, crayons, watercolors, gouache, paintbrush, water brush, paper towels, sponge, water, bulldog clips.Expanded Sketchbook Kit can be viewed on Mary’s website.

Beginning Ukulele for Adult Learners- June

Have you heard? The UKULELE is hot! Here's your chance to learn how to play it. This little, lightweight, go anywhere instrument is both versatile and a blast to play (assuming you practice, of course). On it, you can knock out folk tunes, rock, jazz, blues, pop, country, and classical music, as well as songs grandma knows. The classes are meant for folks with no musical background, but, by the time you have finished the course you will have a skill set enabling you to know how to form essential chords and perform basic strumming and fingerpicking techniques and you will learn how to develop your own playing style. The course is taught based on using familiar songs, so you do not need to know how to read music. However, you must have a playable soprano, concert or tenor size ukulele(no baritones please) and either an electronic tuner (recommended) or cell phone tuner app. So, grab your uke and get ready for a musical adventure! Beyond Beginner Ukulele for Adult Learners - July

Get ready to take your ukulele playing to another level with Duncan Perry! Using his song-based approach, you will explore left-hand ornamentation techniques including hammering on and slides. The right hand will get a work out as you expand your knowledge of strumming and fingerpicking by learning such skills as triplets and muting. More chords will be added to your toolbox and you will learn how to transpose songs from one key to another. Of course, there will be many laughs along the way. The pace will be geared to the proficiency level of those enrolling. At a minimum, all students are expected to know basic chord formations in the Keys of C and G and are capable of smooth chord transitions. If you love playing the ukulele and you want to enhance your knowledge of this wonderful instrument, this course is a must. Please have a serviceable soprano, concert, or tenor size ukulele, an electronic tuner, a music stand and a passion for playing.

The ukulele is captivating people across the globe!  The uke has never been more popular and it's a boatload of fun! Amaze your friends, dazzle your family -- here's your chance to learn to play it. Come join our beginners’ class and share in the Aloha joy of making music on Hawaii's legendary instrument. On this amazing little instrument, you can learn to play folk music, rock, jazz, blues, pop, country, classical music, as well as tunes grandma knows. The course is open to adults and teens 14 years old or older. Parents, grandparents, children, friends, neighbors, -- all are welcome to join this ukulele adventure. The classes are low stress and taught using familiar songs, so you do not need to know how to read music. You will learn essential chords, strumming and fingerpicking techniques, and secrets to developing your own playing style. Your journey with the ukulele begins on July 10th.

To join you must have a playable soprano, concert or tenor size ukulele (no baritones please) and either an electronic tuner (recommended) or cell phone tuner app.  In addition, you'll need a sturdy music stand and clips to keep your music in place because the course will be held outdoors weather permitting. Bring your suntan lotion, your sense of humor, and your ukulele passion!
